Project Description
The main project objective is to upgrade and rehabilitation the Sewerage Infrastructure in the Greater Sewerage Service Area. The other objectives include strengthening of the institutional and operational capacity of the Colombo Municipal Council which is the main sewerage service provider. Project will also improve the operation and maintenance capability of the Colombo Municipal Council through supply of important maintenance equipment.
Upgrading and rehabilitation of sewerage infrastructure in Greater Colombo area include: Rehabilitation of 17 pumping stations in Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), Kolonnawa Urban Council (KUC) and Dehiwela/Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council (DMMC) areas. Laying of four new pumping mains connecting the following Pumping Stations (PS). Installation of pre-treatment facilities at Madampitiya and Wellawatta pumping stations in the form of fine screens and associated screens, washing facilities, and sludge disposal facilities to remove the solids greater than 3mm from the wastewater discharged through the sea outfalls. Rehabilitation of 10 kilometers of critical sewers. Critical sewers include both under capacity sewers, as well as sewers which are in poor structural conditions and subject to frequent failure. The sewer sections for rehabilitation to be identified through a sewer conditions assessment survey. Rehabilitation of Marine Outfalls by way of rehabilitation pipe line, installation of new diffusers, cleaning of grit and provision of access points to the maintenance hole and unblocking of 14 outlet ports at the southern outfall.
