Colombo National Highway Project

Project Description

Widening & Rehabilitation of Road under Colombo National Highways project funded by OPEC fund for International Development (OFID). Rehabilitation and Improvements of 12 Roads of total length of 64.62km and Widening of Bridge No. 2/1 on Narahenpita - Nawala — Nugegoda Road (Nawala ` Bridge). The proposed bridge is 34.15m in length and has four standard lanes with foot walks on both sides. All these roads spread in Colombo district in Western province. The development projects shall be with great significance to economic development too.

Rehabilitation of roads will generally be undertaken on the existing/designed horizontal alignment and within the existing right of way/acquired boundaries. Road rebuilding and rehabilitation will consist of:

  • Widening the road formation to create a cross section that complies with the national standard for that class of road where possible within the existing Right of Way/acquired boundaries.
  • Elevation of the road formation above the periodic flooding levels.
  • Clearing and improving side drains and outlets.
  • Clearing, replacing and improving the hydraulic capacity of cross drainage culverts.
  • Improving the strength of the carriageway by the application of an asphalt treated base, cement stabilized base or an aggregate base course sealed with an asphalt wearing course.
  • Reconstruction or widening of identified bridges.
  • Provision of roadside furniture, traffic signs and signals
